Boosting Our Urban Schools

Talent development is key to our region's economic future and one of the key challenges is improving the performance of the districts that serve our most urban communities. Thanks to the hard work of the Stark Education Partnership, the high school graduation rates in Canton and throughout Stark County have shown dramatic improvement over the last few years.
And now a plan to transform the Cleveland Metropolitan School District is being implemented. A recent column in the Plain Dealer by Alan Rosskamm and John Zitzner highlighted the signs of promise in 20 district and public charter schools.
They wrote: Both Cleveland School District schools and public charter schools prove that urban children living in poverty with challenging family circumstances can succeed and excel academically given the right learning environment.
They argue that implementing the transformation plan will help spread that promise throughout the district.
