Thinking the Unthinkable with State Government

One of the drivers of the increase in government collaboration among local governments in Northeast Ohio is the ongoing fiscal crisis at the state level. With an $8 billion budget gap looming, there is a great need for innovative approaches to revamping state programs. The Cleveland-based Center for Community Solutions this week issued its assessment with the provocative title: Thinking the Unthinkable.

What's unthinkable? The center's executive director John Begala says the unthinkable -- at least to most politicians -- is the need for both severe budget cuts and significant tax hikes to balance the state's budget.
