Cuyahoga Falls Department to Merge

The permanent fiscal crisis facing local government is encouraging more elected officials to find more effiecient ways to operate various departments. In Cuyahoga Falls the city is planning to merge its building department with the county's. Summit County already has already assumed responsibility for services once performed by the City of Akron.
Cuyahoga Falls Service Director Valerie Wax Carr spoke for a lot of elected officials when she told the Falls News Press that "We can't afford to keep operating the way we are."
Officials in Wayne County are taking a look at whether a charter form of government might cut government expenses. Summit County is the only county in Ohio with a charter form of government, and Cuyahoga will switch to that format in 2011. Under a charter form of government, there are fewer elected officials and county budgets are more directly controlled by a county executive.
