Shared Services Idea Center

The permanent fiscal crisis facing local governments is driving a growing number of government collaborations and innovative ideas. Partners in Advance Northeast Ohio are encouraging local governments to reject business as usual and find new ways to work together to improve services and lower costs. A new resource in that effort is the Shared Services Idea Center hosted by Ohio Auditor Mary Taylor.
The online Center allows you to find examples of how governmetns are working together to save money, and hopefully inspire your own community's effots to partner with others.
The need for greater collaboration was highlighted on Sunday in an opinion column written by Chris Ronayne and published in Sunday's Plain Dealer. Ronayne noted that shared services and other collaborations are going to be the only way to address the structural challenges facing Cuyahoga County.
And in Summit County, Richfield Township is exploring how best to provide police patrols for its residents. To provide that service, it has asked three different governments to submit bits. The editorial writers at the Akron Beacon Journal wonder whether other communities will also be inspired to consider sharing the cost of government services.
Thanks to the Shared Services Idea Center there is more opportunity for inspiration.
