Collaborations to Lower Higher Ed Costs

Posted byChris Thompson - 10.25.2010

One of the priorities of Advance Northeast Ohio is to promote more efficient government and that effort extends to our state universities.

The Plain Dealer reports today that state universities and community colleges are taking another look at how they could lower costs by sharing services. As the story notes, the Innovation Alliance (which involves Lorain County Community College, the University of Akron and others) has been helping develop shared services since 2008. But more collaboration is needed.

"We recognize in higher education that we need to look for new and crative approaches that will be embedded in collaboration and partnership so we can all benefit," said LCCC spokeswoman Marcia Ballinger. "Individually we no longer have the resources, wehther financial or human, to do it alone."

That sums up reality for all sorts of governmental unites across Northeast Ohio. The partners in Advance Northeast Ohio encourage the region's universities and community colleges to expand the Innovation Alliance and other efforts to improve services and lower costs through collaboration
