JobsOhio Pushes Regional Business Growth

Posted byChris Thompson - 08.30.2011

Partners in Advance Northeast Ohio are entering a new era of collaboration under the new state initiative JobsOhio. State and regional officials gathered this morning at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Independence to discuss how JobsOhio will help businesses in Ohio.

JobsOhio is promoting more regional collaboration by encouraging each of six regions in Ohio to develop economic development strategies similar to what Northeast Ohio has already done with Advance Northeast Ohio. The state strategy is a reflection of one of the key drivers of our regional competitiveness agenda: Businesses cluster where they can access regional assets. Therefore, state policies need to promote, connect, and leverage assets regionally. And that is what Team NEO (the lead regional agency for JobsOhio), other regional economic development organizations, and local economic development entities will be doing more of with the assistance of JobsOhio.

This month there's been plenty of positive signs that Northeast Ohio's business growth efforts are paying off -- whether you are working in steel in Canton; or the medical sector in Cleveland; or the distribution business in the Mahoning Valley; or advanced materials in Wooster; or food processing in Solon and Cleveland; or oil and gas across the region. But we also know the challenges are great.

The only way to build a vibrant economy is to do it together -- as a state, as a region and as individual communities. JobsOhio will be key to building a vibrant Northeast Ohio.
