Lorain County Dispatch

Posted byChris Thompson - 08.29.2011

Lorain County is moving forward with plans to consolidate 911 and sheriff's dispatch services, another example of how communities in Northeast Ohio are looking for ways to cut costs and streamline services for residents.

In a Morning Journal article on the consolidation, Lorain County Sheriff Phil Stamitti said, "It's the wave of the future. There are 15 police departments in this county, and we're all going to have to start working together." A memorandum of understanding was signed this week with the merger expected to take several months. The consolidation is expected to save $700,000; some of the savings will be used to reinstate three deputies.
