Innovative Approach to Talent Development

In this economy few jobs are more important than helping the unemployed find work. Employment Connection -- a collaboration between the city of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County -- has developed a much more effective job placement process by spending more effort working directly with employers.

This story from Olivera Perkins in the Plain Dealer highlights the success that Employment Connection is having. Here is a highlight:

The key to the new approach is putting the focus on the employer instead of the job seeker, said Larry Benders, executive director of the Workforce Investment Board, which runs Employment Connection. "We needed to start with where the actual openings were and then work backwards to find out what we needed to do to get employers to fill them with our job seekers," he said.

The story says that the state wants to spread the Employment Connection model to other counties.
