Growing Northeast Ohio Businesses in New Year

Posted byChris Thompson - 01.12.2011

Last year ended with news that our region performed pretty well during the still-slow economic recovery and while it's still very early, the New Year is showing signs of more than the same.

So where will this economic growth come from? How about:

  • A German automotive company considering Akron for expansion.
  • A bank and a community group partnering to build up a Cleveland neighborhood.
  • Growing agri-businesses, including an expanding dairy in urban Cleveland.
  • An expanding medical device maker in Lake County.
  • Companies in Aurora and Canton that are training workers for advanced energy careers.
  • A Youngstown IT company and other promising startups driving innovation in fields ranging from journalism to health care.
  • Medina companies plugging into that community's broadband infrastructure.

Yep, that looks like a good start.

With a mission of promoting the growth of NEO, what's your position on the governor's rejection of over $450 million for rail construction in this state? I'd like to see some concrete numbers to understand that decision... or some noise from this group. If the decision was wrong, we've got a long way to go with the treat of similar mistakes... if this is, in fact, a mistake. Please state your position and something concrete to support it.
