Ohio on the Rise

Posted by Chris Thompson - 01.26.2011

As state officials ponder changes to the Department of Development, a new national study shows that Ohio is heading in the right direction. The State Science and Technology Index issued by the Milken Institute rated Ohio at 29th, up seven slots from 36 in 2008. While not nearly where Ohio needs to be to build a vibrant economy, the gain of seven slots is a reflection of the benefits generated by the Third Frontier and other efforts to increase innovation in the state.

In particular, the state showed a dramatic increase in academic research and development spending, up to 21st from 30.

What will it take for Ohio to continue to move up in these rankings?

Check out the full report.
