Two Cities Learning to Share

Posted byChris Thompson - 07.25.2011

Partners in Advance Northeast Ohio have been encouraging our local government officials to share resources and increasingly officials are doing more than listening -- they are sharing.

Lorain and Elyria, two Lorain County communities that have in the past seemed much more distant than the few miles that separate them, are going through the necessary steps to merge their respective health departments. The merger is proceeding even as two new mayors are getting ready to assume leadership of the two cities.

Lorain Mayor Tony Krasienko summed up the situation in this story in the Lorain Morning Journal: "You maximize your resources by combining resources. At the end it's about providing the best service available to citizens." Congratulations to Mayor Krasienko and Elyria Mayor Bill Grace for pushing this combination forward.

Are there resources that you wish were combined in your community?
