New Narrative for Northeast Ohio

Posted byChris Thompson - 06.28.2011

For much of the last 30 years Northeast Ohio's economy was out-performed by the nation as a whole, but signs continue to mount that our region's story is changing in a big way.

A recent analysis of the nation's top 100 metropolitan areas (Northeast Ohio is home to three: Akron, Cleveland and Youngstown) by the Brookings Institution placed Youngstown and Akron among the top 20 best performers and Clevleand among the second group of 20 during this economic recovery.

Yes, our region was hit hard by the Great Recession and it will take a long time to recover the jobs lost. But in the last several economic cycles, Northeast Ohio fell farther behind when the economy started to recover. This time around, at least so far, it looks like Northeast Ohio is keeping pace.

The partners in Advance Northeast Ohio believe we can not only keep pace but lead the nation as long as we continue to stay focused on business growth, talent development, inclusion and government efficiency. As Northeast Ohio continues to grow we will indeed have a new story to tell ourselves and the world.

To be a leading region an effort and mentality is needed from each company, organization, and individual to collaborate and work together. I know Cleveland has all the assets you could ever ask for, and so it is time we connect the dots and make a thriving community.
