Amount of Data Could Delay Merger Vote

Posted by Advance Northeast Ohio - 01.12.2012

The first four communities in the region - Pepper Pike, Moreland Hills, Orange and Woodmere - thinking about merging are finding the amount of preliminary data to consider could delay a vote originally slated for later this year.

"It's becoming obvious that the data is complex, there's a huge quantity of it, and it takes a lot of effort to sort through it, " said Orange Village Mayor Kathy Mulcahy in the Sun News. "I think it's becoming clear that to rush for a vote in November, before the planning commission has had a chance to assemble the data and disseminate it to the public - it's just not realistic for an August filing for a November vote."

The mayors began discussing the idea of merging last year and hoped to ask their respective constituents what they thought of the idea in November. With a positive outcome of each election, the communities would further study and outline what a merger would look like before a final vote was taken in 2013. Delaying the November vote would push a final decision back by a year.

As these communities consider merging, are there others in Northeast Ohio you think would benefit from partnering?
