Three of Youngstown’s Biggest Events Come Together for a Weekend in July

Posted by ThePlus - 06.02.2010

Summer in The Plus means family fun, festivals, concerts and enjoying everything our great region has to offer. Youngstown is one of the many cities in Northeast Ohio celebrating the summer season in style. This year, Youngstown is bringing three major events together for what organizers are calling the “Biggest Weekend of the Summer.” By joining forces, event planners are hoping to attract thousands of visitors to Youngstown.

The weekend extravaganza will take place July 9-11 and will feature the Youngstown Live Tour of the Valley, Youngstown State University’s Summer Festival of the Arts and the Youngstown Jazz Festival. While each event attracts hundreds of visitors every year, the goal is to bring even more people to the city by marketing the events together.

Through the collaborative efforts of The City of Youngstown, YSU, Regional Chamber and Mahoning County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the weekend aims to draw people from across the region.

The weekend will feature the following events:

+ Youngstown Live Tour of the Valley
“The Tour of the Valley, in its second year, is the largest three-day cycling stage race in Ohio. It attracts more than 300 professional and amateur racers, more than 4,000 spectators and awards more than $20,000 in cash prizes. Organized by Carbon Racing, a non-profit competitive cycling team, Tour of the Valley is a carbon-neutral event that features three races over three days along with a sports expo, bike safety course for children and bike ride for non-racers.”

+ Youngstown State University’s Summer Festival of the Arts
“YSU’s Summer Festival of the Arts, in its 12th year, features more than 60 artists in a juried exhibition of paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, textiles and jewelry offered for sale in an artists’ marketplace, along with live performances in music, dance and theater; hands-on children’s activities; a public art project; and a festival of nations that features ethnic food, music and folk dancing.”

+ Youngstown Jazz Festival
“The 2010 Youngstown Jazz Festival will feature Grammy-winning performers Spyro Gyra and David Benoit along with Soundoctrine – an alternative funk/jazz band – Howard and the Point 5 Band and the YSU Jazz Collective.”
