Cleveland Art Scene on Display in NYC
Posted by ThePlus - 05.25.2010
The five arts organizations that provide funding to the Cleveland Plus Marketing Alliance impressed New York City’s media when representatives traveled to the Big Apple recently to showcase Northeast Ohio’s extraordinary arts and culture scene. In a collaborative effort organized by Cleveland Plus and its partner Positively Cleveland, a team made up of The Cleveland Museum of Art, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, The Cleveland Orchestra, Cleveland Play House, and PlayhouseSquare, spent a weekend in New York City to raise awareness for Cleveland’s arts offerings. Cuyahoga Arts and Culture was also there to present the county’s unique arts and cultural funding mechanism. The weekend was anchored by a critically acclaimed performance by The Cleveland Orchestra at Carnegie Hall.
Taking place May 21 - 22, the weekend event featured a reception prior to The Orchestra’s performance and a breakfast the following morning. Representatives at the reception had the opportunity to update reporters on what’s new in the Cleveland arts scene. While in New York, representatives of the arts organizations called on New York-based media outlets, including the New York Times, Time Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Scholastic Parent & Child, TheatreMania Web site and Travel & Leisure. The meetings were designed to strengthen Cleveland Plus’ relationships with key editors and reporters to increase the chance of getting coverage in the future.
The next day, the arts representatives connected with “ex-pat” Clevelanders living in New York City. This served as a great opportunity for former Clevelanders to learn more about recent developments in their hometown’s art community. Many of those in attendance still visit Cleveland regularly and were excited to hear the latest news coming out of Northeast Ohio.
