Warren on the Rise

Despite economic hardships across the nation, entrepreneurship thrives in Warren. Last week at the annual State of the City address, sponsored by the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber, Mayor Michael O’Brien applauded many of Warren’s recent successes and made a solid case as to why Warren will continue to prosper in the future.

Warren established 25 new businesses in 2009 and the Mayor expects $10 million in public and private investment to come to the downtown area in the next three to five years. “Also, prospective projects such as a new technology incubator and a site for the Eastern Gateway Community College could transform the complexion of the central business district.”

With support from state grants and federal stimulus dollars, Warren is also in the process of completing major projects that will enhance the community. “Renovations to the Packard Music Hall and an expansion of the Packard Museum of $3 million; resurfacing projects along Mahoning Avenue of nearly $600,000; another $1.5 million for Phase II improvements to Parkman Road; new lighting for the historic district at $220,000 and $1.7 million in construction of the new Warren Greenway Bike Trail are among the projects slated for the city this year, O'Brien says.”

To further develop Warren’s vibrant community, many local businessmen are doing their part to bring events to the area. Local amphitheatre events and festivals are expected to draw 100,000 people to downtown Warren. The influx of people will surely go a long way in supporting the growing tourism industry.
