Producer of Critically-Acclaimed Documentary Has Ties to Northeast Ohio

Beachwood native Eric Desatnik knows a thing or two about producing a great documentary. Just ask Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson. The trio teamed up to produce the critically-acclaimed new documentary, The Whale, which will open November 4th at the Capitol Theatre in Cleveland and Chagrin Cinemas in Chagrin Falls.
Already receiving esteemed praise from critics at The New York Times, the Washington Post and more, The Whale “describes what happens when a baby killer whale gets separated from his family and unexpectedly starts making contact with people along a scenic fjord called Nootka Sound” (The Whale press release). The film will be playing in Cleveland and Chagrin Falls from November 4 – November 10. Check out the movie trailer below!
While The Whale makes waves (sorry for the pun) throughout The Plus region, Northeast Ohio continues to develop a thriving film industry. Led by the efforts of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission, this past year has proven to be one of the region’s busiest for movie production. Already, six full-length feature films have shot in Northeast Ohio, representing an estimated $80 million investment in the region. Productions that have filmed in The Plus include: The Avengers, Fun Size, Boot Tracks, Falling Backwards and I, Alex Cross (Greater Cleveland Film Commission). Together, these movies are helping to establish Northeast Ohio as a prime destination for filmmakers while making an impact on the region’s economy.
