The Most Ambitious Regional Planning Effort in Half a Century
Posted by Advance Northeast Ohio - 04.26.2012
The work of the Northeast Ohio Sustainable Communities Consortium, a collaborative effort to address key ANEO goals, is being described as 'the biggest and most ambitious regional planning effort in half a century.'
The Consortium, a nonprofit coalition of 32 local and regional government nonprofit agencies and foundations including The Fund for Our Economic Future, has been working for the past year and the Plain Dealer recently highlighted their work.
"We're growing our footprint but not the population to pay for it," said Consortium Program Director Hunter Morrison. "We need to make some choices about where to focus and where to concentrate."
Through their work the Consortium wants to persuade our region's municipalities and government entities to change where and when development is allowed by factoring in future consequences and costs.
Do you agree a plan is needed to shape development in our region? Have ideas on what a plan should include? Voice your opinion at one of the Consortium's upcoming "Vibrant Northeast Ohio" dialogues or share your thoughts here and we'll pass them along.
